WordPerfect 8, released in 1997 by Corel, was the last big push to keep the classic word processor relevant in a world quickly dominated by Microsoft Word. It ran on Windows 95 and NT, still carried that iconic blue screen vibe for loyal users, and packed in better graphics, tables, and internet publishing tools than its predecessors. Updates like 8.0 Service Pack 7 and the later 8.1 edition in 1998 fixed bugs and added smoother Windows integration, but by then, most offices were already locked into Office 97. If you grew up making school reports or office memos on WordPerfect, you remember the feeling—fast, no-nonsense, and just a little stubborn about giving up its throne.
