TurboTax 2000 for Mac

Happy Tax Day! TurboTax for Mac 2000

Back in the ‘80s and ‘90s, if you were doing your own taxes on a Mac, you probably used MacInTax. It launched in 1984 and was one of the first consumer tax software programs made specifically for Macintosh users. It was simple, got the job done, and built a loyal base of early digital DIYers. Each year brought new versions to match tax code changes—by the early ‘90s, it was basically the go-to for Mac-based tax prep. Intuit (the makers of Quicken) saw the potential and bought Chipsoft, the company behind MacInTax. They folded it into what we now know as TurboTax, which became the dominant tax software across both Mac and PC. MacInTax quietly disappeared as TurboTax took over—but if you were filing taxes on a beige Mac in your dorm room or home office, you definitely remember those early versions.
